The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye and the leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, Asari Dokubo last Friday appealed to Nigerian youths to shun the planned protest billed to commence tomorrow.

They made the appeal last Friday at a rally organised in Abuja.

Kennedy-Ohanenye while speaking at the well attended rally urged mothers to appeal to their children to abstain from the protest. She pleaded with them give President Bola Tinubu time to execute the Renewed Hope Agenda. She stressed that protest would not solve the problems of the country adding that only peace would take the country from the economic doldrums inherited by the Tinubu administration.

Kennedy-Ohanenye said ” Let me tell you, the desired good governance Nigerians are craving for can only be achieved in a peaceful environment and not in protest and chaos.

“We are mothers and we don’t want our children to die, we don’t want this protest because when there is protest, it shatters a country. This is why I have invited our mothers, youths and children to this rally to sensitise them on the need to live peacefully. We all saw what happened during the ENDSARS protest whereby lots of properties were damaged. We don’t want this scenario to happen again.

“I’m pleading with Nigerians to please shelve this protest because we don’t want to lose any of them. I assure you that we will start enjoying the benefit of the reforms embarked upon by President Bola Tinubu in a year’s time.

“Our President has shown his love for women by standing with me. All I have done for women wouldn’t have been possible without his support” said the women minister.

While speaking at the Rally, Dokubo stated that President Tinubu is not a magician who is expected to solve all the problems inherited from past administrations in one year. He urged women to appeal to their children to embrace peace.

Dokubo said “If the crisis starts today, Innocent people will be affected. Some people are saying let us do what is happening in Kenya, how many people have died in Kenya? Let us do what is happening in Bangladesh, how many people have died in Bangladesh? Some of the people sponsoring this will not come out to protest. So, I appealing to the youths to stay away from this protest”

In the same vein, the National President of the Association of Nigerian Students, Comrade Lucky Emonofe, also said Nigerian students will not be part of the planned protest.

He said “We will not be part of the planned protest as long as our mothers, the women are against it. As for us the Nigerian students who are your children, we will listen to our mothers”
