That the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday grilled the former Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, and his wife, Mairo Al-Makura is no longer news, what is news is that Almakura and his wife were quizeed over alleged breach of public trust and misappropriation of billions of naira by his administration.
The couple were reportedly invited to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where they were interrogated for hours about their alleged involvement in embezzlement of Nasarawa State funds between 2011 and 2019.
It was gathered that the Almakuras could not provide satisfactory explanations on some contracts and finances of the state.
Sources stated that the couple were released around 10.30pm.
Al-Makura served as Nasarawa State governor between 2011 and 2019 before he was elected into the National Assembly as Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District.
The spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, could not be reached for comment on the case last night.
