The United Kingdom government on Monday banned all foreign health workers planning to migrate to the country from bringing dependents.
This was made known by the UK Home Office via its verified X handle (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
“From today, care workers entering the UK on Health and Care Worker visas can no longer bring dependents. This is part of our plan to deliver the biggest ever cut in migration,” it wrote.
This announcement is coming a day after the Nigerian government asked all health workers to tender their resignations before relocating abroad.
This directive was given by the Minister of State for Health, Dr Tunji Alausa, on Saturday in Abeokuta during his visit to the Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Aro.
He said that health workers going abroad to seek for greener pastures must “henceforth resign their appointment before embarking on such journeys.”
The Minister added that the directive was contained in the Executive Order issued by President Bola Tinubu.
