The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state as solid as the rock of Gibraltar, saying it only shifted members who were merely occupying space to the All Progressives Party (APC).

Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who spoke during a meeting with PDP women stakeholders from the three state constituencies in Sagbama Council Area of the state, said the PDP was gaining more grounds than other political parties as the November 11 Governorship election inches closer.

He noted that the PDP-led Douye Diri Administration remains focused on development of the state and is making steady progress in that regard, stressing that the few politicians who left the party, only did so in pursuit of filthy lucre.

The Deputy Governor said the present administration was poised to use the scarce resources of the state in advancing the frontiers of development rather than finance the insatiable selfish interests of individuals.

According to him, the few who left the party do not have any electoral value and have since been replaced with more capable and politically viable policians

Senator Ewhrudjakpo reiterated his call on parents, particularly mothers to caution their children ahead of the forthcoming election, stressing that every youth recruited by unscrupulous politicians to carry out election violence belongs to a family.

Describing women as a bulwark of success for any administration, the deputy governor opined that women were politically more stable and dependable than their male counterparts, noting that unlike men, women rarely defect from one political party to another.

He thanked the Sagbama women for their prayers and support for the Prosperity Administration in the state, and expressed confidence that with their continued support, continuity would be consolidated through the November 11 gubernatorial election.

His words: “As we prepare for the election, I want our mothers to talk to their children. Tell them that they should not carry guns. We need to remind them that they should not allow themselves to be used to perpetrate election violence.

“I always tell people, if you want to succeed, make women your companion; if you want to fail, make men your friend. You know why? Men are easily swayed; men like children, everything attracts them.

“Women are more stable and dependable than men, and that is why men are decamping every now and then, yet women are rigid, and the very few women that decamp are misled by men to do so.

“By the way, the few persons who decamped from our party recently, are political leeches who have no electoral value. They were only occupying space. So, for us, their leaving is good riddance to bad rubbish.”

Earlier, the Member representing Sagbama Constituency 1 at the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ebizi Ndiomu-Brown, described the PDP women stakeholders in Sagbama LGA as a formidable front formed to work for the re-election of Governor Douye Diri and the Deputy Governor.

Hon. Ndiomu Brown who appreciated the Douye Diri Administration for being gender-friendly through several appointments and elective offices, expressing the Group’s commitment towards mobilizing women in the various constituencies to actualize the re-election project.

To this end, the State PDP Women Leader, Dame Christy Ebbelli, informed that the women had been meeting regularly to ensure unity of purpose, adding that they were ready defend their votes from the units to the collation centres at the ward, local government, and state levels.
