Groups political agitators from the South South region coalesced in Abuja Monday demanding the position of the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly.
Addressing a Word Press Conference on behalf of his group, South South Youth and Stakeholders Forum, Chief Legborsi Yamaabana appealed to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC to support the aspiration of Senator Godswill Akpabio for the position of Senate President in the 10th NASS.
Chief Yamaabana noted that the South South had been grossly marginalised in the political scheme of things in Nigeria, pointing out that the last time a South South person became the Senate President was in the 2nd Republic in 1979 in person of the late Joseph Wayas from Cross River State.
It is on record that no fewer than six senator-elects are contesting for the senate presidency.
But Yamaabana argued that the zone was loyal and had contributed significantly to the electoral fortune of the party in the last general election.
According to him, Akpabio contested for the Presidential primary of the party but withdrew his ambition for Tinubu.
He observed that Akpabio was eminently qualified for Senate Presidency having served as the deputy minority leader of his party then before he decamped to APC.
Akpabio, he explained, has made a lot of sacrifice for the party, APC adding that he will represent the party well and serve the people diligently
