The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has cautioned importers of regulated products against the use of unprofessional third parties clearing agent at the ports.
In a statement on Thursday, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye explained that the agency has observed that importers used third parties who are not knowledgeable in processing documentation and regulatory requirements for clearance of their consignments with NAFDAC at the ports.
Adeyeye reiterated that NAFDAC discourages the use of third parties who are not conversant with the agency’s operational procedures.
According to her, where it’s inevitable to use a third party for product clearance, it is advisable to use only knowledgeable individuals or organisations appointed by NAFDAC.
The NAFDAC boss said that this would ensure that importers have first-hand information on the status of their documentation with NAFDAC and avoids issues of non-compliance.
