At the Iyana Ipaja bus stop in Lagos, an unidentified University of Ilorin student sustained serious injury when a bus ran over her toe, as she struggled to enter Ilorin- bound bus. Scores of students were left stranded at the bus stop due to inadequate vehicles.
At the Ajegunle bus park around Alakuko/Amje, the scene was a bedlam of sort as tens of students of the same institution were wondering whether they would be able to make it to Ilorin this weekend.
At the Oshodi motor parks, it was even worse. As at the time this reporter left the Oshodi Park around 9.30 more than 30 students were waiting for bus, as the road transport officials at the park promised to deploy more buses. The tension among the stranded students, Business Hallmark learnt is caused by the University of Ilorin’s alleged insistence to conduct test on Monday, January 6.
A 400- level Geography student who craved anonymity told this medium that ” why we have this sea of University of Ilorin students here and in different bus parks is because the authorities insist on conducting tests in virtually different departments. This is a wicked act on the part of the school’s authorities given that we have just finished new year. One would have thought that they would give us up till January 8 to get back to school for the tests. If you had been here earlier, many students sustained varying degrees of injury while struggling to enter the available bus. I wanted to go to Berger bus park but my friend informed me that the situation there was chaotic.
Many students who spoke with Business Hallmark condemned the date set for the tests, calling on the school authorities to show more understanding in the future.
Efforts to reach University of Ilorin for a response proved abortive.
