The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the release of the abducted former lawmaker and Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor.

The spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the release of Mrakpor, popularly known as ‘Ada Anioma’, late Friday night.

SP Edafe, however, did not give further details on the release of the female politician cum cleric.

Mrakpor, a former member of the House of Representatives, regained her freedom late Friday night. It was learned that she had arrived at the Delta State capital and headed to an undisclosed hospital at the time of this report.

Those who abducted her had earlier demanded N1billion ransom, but it was not clear if that particular amount of money was paid before she was released or not.

It would be recalled that Hon. Mrakpor was forcefully kidnapped by gunmen on July 30 from her church premises along the DBS Road in Asaba, Delta State capital city. A Police aide and one other person lost their lives in the kidnap attack while some others sustained injuries.
