Moves by Nyesom Wike backed All Progressives Congress (APC) to impeach Governor Fubara Siminialayi of Rivers State is gathering momentum as the APC on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, directed its members in the State House of Assembly led by Hon. Martin Amaewhule, to commence impeachment proceedings against the governor with immediate effect.
Governor Fubara had on Monday while playing host to some eleders of Bayelsa State, declared that the 27 members of the State Assembly were “non-existent” in the eye of the law.
The Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee (CTC) in the State, Chief Tony Okocha, known to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, gave the directive at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The 27 members of the State Assembly who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC are core loyalists of the immediate-past governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.
Okocha said the resolve of the APC leadership in the State to impeach the governor followed his remarks on Monday in which he said that the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the political crisis rocking the state was only a political solution and not constitutional.
The APC Caretaker Committee Chairman stressed that if the Assembly fails to commence the impeachment process against Fubara, the Party will invoke the relevant sections of its constitution to discipline them as members of the APC.
