The memory of Sir Lucky Omoluwa, founder of Pinnacle Communications Limited who died on February 18, 2020, exactly three years ago, was celebrated by all and sudry with the launch of the Lagos Digital Switch Over by Pinnacle Communications.
The event which saw many dignitaries in attendance took place last Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the Lagos Pinnacle Transmitting Station, Isiwu, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The launch commemorates the third year remembrance of the broadcasting icon and his dream of deepening digital switch over across the country through his company came alive exactly three years after his painful exit.
The new transmitting station according to NATIONAL WAVES findings is a state-of-the-art 3.6kw GatesAir liquid-cooled Maxiva transmission system, in an N+1 configuration.
The high-power system and the in-built redundancy combine to deliver wide coverage and uninterrupted transmission.
The ceremony started at exactly 2pm with a minute silence for Sir Omoluwa who was loved by those who crossed his path.
The Director General of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr.Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, who was represented by Dr Chibuike Ogwumike, NBC Zonal Director, Lagos Zone traced the history of the digital switch over and the place of Sir Omoluwa.
He was effusive in his praise for the departed communications guru.
In an address by Chairman, Pinnacle Communications Limited, Mrs Orumenonsen Omoluwa represented by Head of Centagon International School, Abuja, Mrs Yetunde Kamson, traced the success story of the switch over from analogue to digital and the dogged commitment of Pinnacles in the whole process.
She was grateful to God for making it possible for the company to complete the Lagos digital switch over distribution station being the third after Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Jos, Plateau State
Mrs Omoluwa added that the Lagos Centre joins the cutting-edge transmission facilities that have been installed in the past.
However, she noted that the Lagos centre is unique, for several reasons, saying: ”The first is that Lagos is Nigeria’s most giant, most sophisticated, most demanding, very competitive and very lucrative media market.
She said: ”The arrival of this Pinnacle Communications Limited Signal Distribution Centre in this market indicates that the DSO has finally arrived where it matters most. ”The opportunity has arrived for the Nigerian communities of the Lagos media market, to get access to the bouquets of programming, that the DSO has been offering their compatriots in other locations around the country, since the commencement of the DSO pilot in Jos, in April 2016.” ‘
The second and most solemn reason why today’s launch means everything to us at Pinnacle Communications Limited, and for the Omoluwa family, is that today marks the third anniversary of the tragic passing of our husband, father, leader, and Chairman, Sir Lucky Omoluwa
”He laboured very hard to install the facilities that we have all gathered to commission today, but he was not destined to see the actualisation. That in itself is a very painful fact for us. ”But we are strengthened by the knowledge that he would have been very happy that this day has come to pass. ”Sir Lucky Omoluwa was very dedicated to the success of the Nigerian Digital Switch Over. He believed that the process was a worthy cause; and it was that belief, which made him enter the bid to become the second national Signal distributor, as well as to commit huge sums of money into the procurement of the top-range Signal facilities that we have installed in various locations around Nigeria. ”Sir Lucky Omoluwa was a man of exacting standards. The highest ethical standards characterised his business life and practices. He never cut corners; every project he delivered, either in broadcasting or other areas of endeavour, was always of the highest
”He was a man of deep passions, the highest ethical business practices, and a genuine patriot who worked with the greatest commitment to the best interest of our dear country. ”It is, therefore, very painful for us that we lost him at a time when his commitment to the DSO process was certainly still needed. ”But the fact that we are all gathered here today for this commissioning indicates that we have remained committed to keeping Sir Lucky Omoluwa’s dreams for the DSO process alive.”
Mrs Omoluwa assured all stakeholders that Pinnacle Communications Limited remains committed to delivering Nigeria’s DSO. ”We will not waiver in our determination to remain steadfastly committed to the vision of our founder, Sir Lucky Omoluwa.” she said
The Director, Engineering, Pinnacle Communications Limited, Engr. Olusegun Yakubu said the event marked a watershed in the evolution of Pinnacles and the company’s commitment to see the digital switch over become a reality.
Speaker after speaker extolled the virtue of Sir Lucky Omoluwa, a widely respected business man, patriot, philanthropist and communications expert.
The event will be longed remembered, and many concede to the fact that Omoluwa has immortalized his name in the annals of communications and digital broadcasting in the country.
If there’s a singular effort that has made a seminal contribution to this dream of a digital switch over, it is Pinnacle Communication, one of lincesed broadcast companies that have invested in switching to a digital signal from analogue.
Since Pinnacle Communications Limited became the preferred bidders and winners of the Second National License as the Second signal distributors for the Nigerian Digital Switch Over (DSO), it has proved its mettle ever since it came on the scenes.
Though Sir Lucky Omoluwa, founder of Pinnacle Communications Limited has gone to be with the Lord, the memories of his baby, the execution of Lagos Digital Switch Over will remain indelible for a long time.
