In a bid to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy among indigenes, the Kano State Government has approved N854 million for the Auren Zaurawa Mass Wedding Initiative and N700m for the payment of school fees for 7,000 indigenes studying at Bayero University Kano (BUK).
This was approved on Wednesday at the state executive council meeting due to the country’s economic crisis.
The state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, made the announcement on Thursday via his verified X handle, formerly known as Twitter.
He wrote: “Also from yesterday’s meeting. The Kano State Executive Council has approved the release of the sum of N854 million for the first phase of the Auren Zaurawa Mass Wedding Initiative.
“And the sum of N700 Million for tuition fees of 7000 students of Bayero University Kano (BUK).”
