The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts (Local), Hon. Nureni Ayinde Akinsanya, has commended Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for launching the Eko Cares initiative.
This program is aimed at addressing economic challenges and empowering Lagosians to overcome poverty and build self-sustaining futures.
The initiative, which is expected to benefit more than 500,000 households, is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the economic hardships faced by the people.
In a statement released on Thursday through his media office, Hon. Nureni Ayinde Akinsanya, representing Mushin Constituency 1, commended Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudasiru Obasa for his leading role in advocating for welfare packages and economic interventions for the people of Lagos.
“Under the visionary leadership of our esteemed speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudasiru Obasa, who acknowledges Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s efforts in palliative distribution, we have advocated for a range of social intervention initiatives to be implemented at all levels of government.”
“In a recent plenary session, our speaker called on the government to engage manufacturers and traders to help reduce inflation. I commend Speaker Obasa for his visionary initiative and his outstanding performance in his legislative role. I also applaud Governor Sanwo-Olu for his remarkable efforts in implementing social intervention programs.”
It is worth recalling that the Lagos State House of Assembly urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to convene a stakeholders meeting involving representatives from the national and state assemblies, local government officials, and councillors to find lasting solutions to the rising cost of living and offer necessary remedies.
“These programs have proven invaluable in providing essential support, resources, and opportunities to individuals and families who were previously deprived of these services,” he added.
The state government’s initiatives, including free food distribution, discounted food marts (Onje Eko), medical outreach, and transportation rebates, address the challenges arising from fuel subsidies and other economic issues plaguing the country.
