As the process for the appointment of a new Emir for the Ningi Emirate in Bauchi State gets underway, the deadline for submitting applications for the throne is set for Thursday, August 29, 2024.
Applications are expected from interested princes belonging to the ruling families of Gidan Mallam Hamza, Gidan Abubakar Danmaje, and Gidan Usman Danyaya—the family of the late Emir, Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya.
The Kingmakers have already issued letters to the three eligible ruling houses, inviting applications from interested members of the royal family.
The announcement was made during a meeting chaired by the Wazirin Ningi, Ambassador Ahmed Shuaibu, who heads the six-member council, which also includes the Chief Imam of Ningi and the District Heads of Burra, Ari, Warji, and the Ningi Council Chairperson.
The Bauchi State Government has directed the Emirate Council and the Kingmakers to begin the selection process.
The Kingmakers will screen the applicants and submit the names of three nominees to Governor Senator Bala Mohammed, who will then appoint the new Emir from the shortlisted candidates.
It has been revealed that five princes are currently considered strong contenders: Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa Danyaya (Danburam Ningi), Haruna Yunusa Danyaya (Chiroman Ningi), Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Gurama (DanLawal Ningi), Alhaji Auwalu Isah (Danmajen Ningi), and Alhaji Zakari Isa (Santurakin Ningi).
However, no official details have been released regarding their applications or the selection process.
It is worth noting that Governor Bala Mohammed has pledged to appoint a credible successor in accordance with the wishes and guidance of the late Emir.
The late Emir, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Dan yaya passed away last Sunday at the age of 88, having ruled for 46 years since ascending the throne in 1978.
