Sad tales filtering out of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory about Michael Aniekeme Meshach, popularly known as Mich, has kept many of his fans mourning.

Mish is said to have died on February 14, 2024, at the age of 41, after a brief illness. He was buried in his hometown of Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. He is survived by his wife, two children.

Mish who was born on May 15, 1982, in Akwa Ibom State was best known for his hit song “Akwa Ibom Ayaya”, which was released in 2011 and became one of the most popular songs in Nigeria and beyond. The song celebrated the beauty and culture of Akwa Ibom and expressed his love for his home state.

Mish started his music career in 2005, after graduating from the University of Uyo with a degree in Computer Science. He was inspired by artists such as Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, and 2Face Idibia. He sang in English, Pidgin, and Ibibio, and his music was a blend of Afrobeat, reggae, and highlife. He released several singles and albums, such as “Plantain Boy”, “Made in Nigeria”, “Nigeria My Country”, and “Mishellaneous”.

Mish was not only a musician, but also a humanitarian and a philanthropist. He founded the Mish Foundation, which focused on empowering the youth, promoting education, and supporting the less privileged.

He also participated in various campaigns and initiatives, such as the Akwa Ibom Talent Showcase, the Peace Concert, and the Save the Children Concert.
