A small plane is reported to have crashed into the roof of a Southern California furniture factory, killing two people and injuring 18 others in what appears to be first air mishap in the new year.
The accident happened less than two minutes after the single-engine Van’s RV-10 aircraft took off from Fullerton Municipal Airport.
The factory, located in Fullerton, Orange County, United States of America had at least 200 workers inside at the time, according to Sky News reports.
A spokesperson for Fullerton police said, “It is not yet known if the people who were killed were in the plane or on the ground.”
Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage showed the plane bent on its side as it crashed into the building, resulting in an explosion and a thick black plume of smoke.
Among the injured, 10 were hospitalised, while eight received treatment at the scene and were released.
Last November, another four-seat plane crashed near the same airport during an emergency landing, leaving both occupants with minor injuries.
It could be recalled that in December 179 people were confirmed dead in a devastating plane crash that occurred at Muan International Airport in South Korea.
Out of the 181 people on board the aircraft, only two crew members survived.
