The Labour Party (LP) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia and Enugu states of plotting to upturn the governorship and state assembly election results in both states.
In a Sunday statement he signed, the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, alleged that Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, is involved in an attempt to upturn the victory of his party in the states.
He also accused the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, of attempting to change results in PDP favour against LP’s candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, whom he said is leading in most local government announced so far.
Abure claimed that “INEC staff are held hostage at Obingwa Local Govt by Governor Ikpeazu and his cohorts to rewrite the results already compiled by INEC officials despite an order from the election body asking their staff to head to Umuahia to collate results for the election, which is in favour of Labour’s Alex Otti”.
He said that what PDP has been found doing is not different from “the criminality orchestrated against our presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, during the February 25 presidential election”.
The LP Chairman called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene and ensure the transfer of all electoral materials to Umuahia where the sanctity of the election and the safety of the officials in charge can be guaranteed.
He said that if this is not addressed, they will be left with no choice other than to mobilise Obidients all over the country to take over the streets across the length and breadth of the country.
Meanwhile the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded Lagos State Governoship Election, Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the election, thereby elected for a second term.
While Sanwo-Olu scored 762,134, his closest rival, the Labor Party candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour scored 312,329. Olajide Adediran, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, came third. He scored 62, 449.
In the same vein, Governor Seyi Makinde has also been declared the winner of the Oyo State gubernatorial election held on Saturday, March 18.
Makinde, a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was re-elected with a total of 256,685 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) state resident electoral commissioner, Tella Adeniran, announced on Sunday that Makinde won in 31 Local Government Areas (LGA) out of 33 LGAs.
Makinde defeated his two major opponents, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 256,685 votes, and Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party (AP), who polled 38,757 votes.
INEC Returning Officer in the state, Prof. Adebayo Simeon, said, “That Makinde Oluseyi Abiodun of the PDP, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected by the Returning Officer, Prof. Adebayo Simeon, on this day, March 19, 2023.”
Makinde has served as the governor of Oyo State since May 29, 2019.
