The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has politically dislodged the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as the
Independent National Electoral Commission announced the NNPP candidate Yusuf Abba Kabir, as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The declaration was made in the early hours of Monday amid growing tension in the state.
According to the results declared by the Returning Officer for the Kano State Governorship election, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, the NNPP candidate polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 890,705 votes.
Recall that Kwankwaso also won the just concluded Presidential Elections in Kano State with the highest votes of 997,279.
Bola Ahmad Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, came second with 517,341, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, polled 131,716 votes.
Kwankwaso was governor of Kano State from from 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015.
