For popular human rights lawyer, Barrister Festus Keyamo, this is a palatable news. This is because the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee has penciled down his name and the names of 49 legal practitioners for admission into the rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria for 2016.
The Secretary of the LPPC, Ahmed Saleh, who is also the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, announced in an advertorial on Tuesday that the 50 shortlisted lawyers have scaled through the first and second filtration processes towards the award of the SAN rank.
According to the advertorial, among those being considered for the award by the LPPC is Festus Keyamo and others namely, John Odubela, Chief Olubowale Taiwo, Richard Akintunde, Chiesonu Okpoko, Chief Ikenna Egbuna, Adeyemi Ajibade, Sylvester Elema, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, Andrew Igboekwe, AbdulHakeem Mustapha, Olaseni Adio, Chief Kalu Umeh, Adewale Adesokan, Gboyega Oyewole, Edward Pwajok, Wole Agunbiade, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, Olaniyi Maruph, Olatunbosun Olanipekun, Oyetola Oshobi, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, Emeka Okpoko, Oyesoji Oyeleke, Akeem Agbaje, Olusola Ojutalayo, Chibuike Nwokeukwu, John Majiyagbe, Elisha Kurah, Nnamonso Ekanem, Adekola Olawoye, James Ikeyi, Dr. Valerie-Janette Azinge, Chief Olusegun Akinbiyi and Wilcox Abereton.
Also shortlisted were Mba Ukweni, Adewunmi Ogunsanya, Michael Lana, Olasheni Ibiwole, Daniel Enwelum, Metalubi Adebayo, Olusegun Fowowe, Chief Olusola Oke, Chief Abdul Ajana, Bert Igwilo, Olayode Delano, Edmond Obiagwu and Kehinde Ogunwumiju.
He said any member of the public who has any complaint about any of the shortlisted lawyers must file same before the LPPC not later than June 2, 2016, adding that such a complaint must be accompanied with a verifying affidavit deposed to before a court of record in Nigeria.
“Twenty copies of such comments or complaints must be submitted at the secretariat of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee on or before the prescribed date (June 2, 2016),” Saleh said.
