Inside story of why Abdulrasheed Maina was sacked

That ex- Chairman of the Presidential Task Force Team on Pension Reforms Abdulrasheed Maina was reinstated into the civil service is no longer news. In fact, his reinstatement had been trending on social media in the last couple of days.

In a bid to throw more light on the matter, the  Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau explained how Maina was reinstated into the civil service through a statement  by Ehisienmen Osaigbovo, Dambazau’s spokesman, said:  “The ex- Chairman of the Presidential Task Force Team on Pension Reforms Abdulrasheed Maina was posted few days ago to the Ministry of Interior by the Office of the Head of Service in an Acting capacity to fill a vacancy created following the retirement of the Director heading the Human Resources Department in the Ministry.

“For the avoidance of doubt, issues relating to discipline, employment, re-engagement, posting, promotion and retirements of Federal Civil Servants are the responsibility of the Federal Civil Service Commission and Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, of which no Minister exercises such powers as erroneously expressed. It is understood that Maina’s last posting was with the Ministry of Interior, and that is probably why he was re-posted back to the Ministry.

Embarrassed by the outcry that trailed the reinstatement,  President Muhammadu Buhari  ordered the sack of the former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina.

This was revealed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement made available to newsmen.

In a memo to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the President equally demanded a full report of the circumstances of Maina’s recall and posting to the Ministry of Interior.

Maina was dismissed in 2013 by the Federal Civil Service Commission, following a recommendation by the Office of the Head of Service.

He was accused of massive pension fraud scheme amounting to more than N100billion

The president did not stop there, he also ordered for a thorough investigation and the Chief of Staff has received the report of how Abdulrasheed Maina was reinstated to the civil service.

Femi Adesina, Mr. Buhari’s Chief of Staff, confirmed that the Head of Service, Winifred Oyo-Ita, submitted the report to the president’s chief of staff, on Monday evening as directed.
