At a time when most Nigerians cannot afford three meals per day, some prominent Igala sons in Governor Bello’s Government purchased and donated a Rolls Royce Phantom car believed to worth a whopping M320million to the Attah of Igala . This is coming few weeks to the November 16 governorship election in Kogi State,
The Igala sons comprising the 45 year-old deputy governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Unekwuojo Onoja Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, APC members of the National and the State Assemblies from Kogi East, Hon. Commissioners and Special Advisers handed the car gift to the traditional ruler few days back.
The opposition has alleged that the N10bn Federal Government refund released last week to the state government is aimed at giving the governor an undue advantage but Kogi people will resist vote buying.
Observers of Kogi politics believe the gift is one of the latest desperado by the ruling APC in the state to retain power.
The main opposition party, the PDP, raised alarm over the timing of the car. PDP however, said the monarch deserves more than that considering his status as the chairman of the Kogi state traditional council.
The opposition party cautioned Kogi voters to resist bribery, a situation that contains adverse consequences.
The November 16 election is mainly between the PDP candidate, Engr. Musa Wada, an Igala and Bello from the minority Ebira tribe.
