EFCC Grills Ex-Delta Gov., Ifeanyi Okowa, For 3 Days Over Alleged Fraud

The immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa was last week allegedly quizzed for three days by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over alleged mismanagement of the state resources.

NATIONAL WAVES gathered that Okowa was invited and interrogated for three days and this was kept secret from Deltans to avoid the embarrassment and humiliation it will cause Okowa but this medium was able to gather that the operatives of Zonal office of the EFCC interrogated the former governor over litany of petitions against him.

Olowa’s bank account statements including his daughters and aides were obtained. All his properties including the ones belonging to his family members and kids have also been identified. For the three he was allowed to go home by 4pm and asked to return the next day for further interrogations.

Throughout these three days his phone numbers were unreachable.

Ijaw elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark had also submitted a petition against the former Governor, requesting the EFCC to investigate the over N600 billion diverted from the state’s treasury as well as alleged ownership of Premium Trust Bank. A group we gathered was invited by the EFCC in Port Harcourt, to also adopt their water tight petition against him, wherein they alleged that he mismanaged N600 billion and diverted same.

Okowa has been asked to return to the commission by the end of October for further interrogation.

NATIONAL WAVES contacted EFCC spokenan, Dele Oyewale, to confirm the the arrest and detention of Okowa, he was yet to respond as at the time of filing this report.

Efforts to speak to the former governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa were fruitless as calls to his line were not answered, and he has yet to respond to a messages sent to him on the matter.

NATIONAL WAVES also contacted Okowa’s former Commissioner for Information and current Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine), Charles Aniagwu, to react to the development. calls to his line were not answered and was yet to respond to SMS sent to his phone as at the time of filing this report.
