The news emanating from Enugu, the coal city, is not a palatable one. It is about how unknown gunmen killed Chike Akunyili, a prominent medical doctor and husband of the late public health expert and former NAFDAC boss, Dora Akunyili.
Sources informed NATIONAL WAVES that Akunyili was returning to Enugu from a meeting in Onitsha when the gunmen opened fire on his vehicle, killing him instantly with his driver and police orderly.
The remains of the deceased were deposited at the hospital ahead of burial and police investigation.
Dr. Akunyili was the Chief Executive Officer of one of the biggest hospitals in Enugu, known as St Leo’s Hospital.
He graduated first class and spent his professional career treating citizens across the country, including many on charitable grounds.
Although sources squealed that the unknown Gunmen may have snuffed life out of Dr. Akunyili, his driver and police orderly, Police investigations are expected to unravel those behind the brutal murder of the trio.
