The President of Rotary Club of Maryland, Rtn. Bamidele Onalaja, has been commended by the District Governor, District 9110, Rtn. Remi Bello, for the timely completion of an ultra-modern and well-equipped building donated to Junior High School, Wasimi in Maryland, Lagos.
Rtn. Bello spoke at the commissioning and handing over of the building consisting of a block of classrooms, assembly hall and staff room built at a cost of N21.5m by Rotary Club of Maryland and Chris Bamidele Onalaja Foundation, CBOF.
The project which Rtn. Bello described as “a promise made, promise kept” typical of the club, was “in response to the charge given by the Rotary International President to clubs to do more of service projects that will better the lots of humanity” and that it was constructed in a record time just as the club’s Charter President, Rtn. Bola Oyebade during his tenure as District Governor constructed a Rotary Prostate Cancer centre and commissioned it within nine months.
While acknowledging that the 20-year-old club is living up to its acronym; Hope of Rotary, Rtn. Bello said, “you are the true hope of Rotary because we are seeing results and we are hopeful for more.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the club’s Change Maker President, Rtn. Bamidele Onalaja, revealed that at the inception of his administration in July this year, he led a team of the club Service Project Committee on a visit to the School to access their needs and the result is “what we are commissioning today after 10 weeks of rigorous work.”
Also speaking at the ceremony, Executive Director, RevolutionPlus Group and co-founder of Chris Bamidele Onalaja Foundation, Rtn. Tolu Onalaja disclosed that the collaborative effort between Rotary Club of Maryland and CBOF was in continuation of the main aim of the foundation which is to do good in the society and uplift the less privileged ones citing a purposely built free school in Ikorodu operated by CBOF.
The club also distributed free exercise books to the students of Wasimi Junior School as well as students from other neighbouring schools.
