Captain Chris Najomo
Prior to the emergence of Captain Chris Ona Najomo as the acting director-general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the regulatory body seemed to be literally diminishing in its function of checkmating the excesses of airlines in the country. All of that, however, changed in just four months of assuming office by the aviation guru.
Yes, it is a statement of fact that Capt. Najomo is currently changing the dynamics at NCAA and this seems not to be going down well with those who want him to maintain the status quo as he met it.
It is not also out of place to ascribe to Capt Najomo a superhuman intelligece and technocrat having acquired all the necessary experience in the aviation industry.
For a man who has learned and mastered the intricate aviation sector as the genius conductor, you can never find the right words in a hurry to describe his unparalleled verve and ingenuity.
In spite of moves by some unscrupulous elements to make him lose focus, Capt.Najomo deploys unrivalled skill and resilience to ride the storms like a man who understands that to hold on and be brave despite whatever ordeal life throws at him, will eventually lead to a good turn.
With a deft combination of courage, compassion, and confidence in his vision, Najomo, a renowned aviation professional with over four decades of experience in leadership, piloting, and regulatory expertise in the industry is set to rewrite NCAA’s narrative, governing the aviation sector while steadily improving the sector’s fortunes.
Since he assumed office as the DG of NCAA, Capt. Najomo has radiated more dazzling and colourful spectra of light, thus illuminating the NCAA with his fabled mystic.
The ebullient aviation expert is being treasured by his subordinates and stakeholders like a priceless heirloom, as they believe in his dreams and are working towards achieving enviable results.
The unprecedented achievements recorded by Capt. Najomo did not come to many as a surprise having paid his dues in the aviation industry. He was the director of Air Transport Regulation (DATR), Air Traffic Control assistant for Ilorin Control Tower, Ilorin; Enugu Control Tower, Enugu; and Lagos Control Tower, Lagos. He was also Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority designated examiner BAC 1-1997-2000; director of Flight Operations, Okada Airline; and Training Captain/Simulator instructor of Albarka Airlines. Capt. Najomo belongs to many professional bodies and is a recipient of numerous awards among which is Best Pilot of the Year by NCAA. He was the chief pilot for Arik Air.
Desirous of equipping himself for the task ahead, Najomo attended several courses and training both home and abroad. Some of these institutions and certificate courses he attended are Federal Civil Aviation Authority (FCAA) Training School, Lagos; Airline Training Institute, California, United States of America (USA); America Eagle Aviation, Long Beach California USA; Point Airline Orly, France; Shorts Brother, Belfast, Northern Ireland; and Pegasus Training Centre, Texas, USA.
Under his watch, The NCAA has embarked on moves to foster the ease of doing business in the aviation sector with a view to encouraging new investments.
Capt. Najomo attested to this by emphasizing that the simplification of AOC process is a testament to the new ease of doing business culture at the NCAA.
Capt. Najomo maintained that the authority has granted three AOCs in less than four months, and assured that the NCAA is willing to issue more to encourage new investors, especially as the process is now more simplified.
He is also working assiduously to prioritize aviation safety, security, and staff welfare.
It was based on these remarkable achievements that the leader of the Women In Aviation International, Ms. Susan Okewu, urged the Federal Government to confirm him as the substantive director-general of NCAA.
