Celebrities who jolted the Nigerian entertainment scene in 2024

In 2024, the Nigerian entertainment industry was thrown into an intense emotional trajectory with the tragic jostling for attention with the purely entertaining , with dramatic headlines, big scandals, and devastating losses.

Also, in the heady headlines are some major celebrities, including singers, movie stars, and social media influencers, for their disagreements with others. They include,

Bobrisky

Bobrisky, a controversial social media and transgender figure , earned headlines for a naira mutilation crime that landed him in and out of prison.

The controversy commenced in March when he was awarded the “Most Dressed Female” at Eniola Ajao’s film premiere, sparking questions about morals and legality.

VeryDarkMan and Falz

Another celebrity conflict that rocked the social media in 2024 was the one involving Martin Otse, aka VeryDarkMan.

VeryDarkMan reportedly made defamatory accusations against rapper Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana and his human rights lawyer father, Femi Falana.

It all began when VDM released an audio recording purporting to be of crossdresser Bobrisky alleging that he never stayed in jail after being convicted and that Falz connected him with his lawyer father to obtain a presidential pardon after paying millions.

VDM then made some disparaging remarks about the rapper’s family, prompting them to file a lawsuit against him.

Davido and Chioma

Afrobeat legend Davido finally tied the knots with his longtime lover, Chioma Rowland in a stunning Lagos wedding. It was an event fans will never forget in a hurry.

Davido revealed that the value of his wife Chioma Rowland’s engagement ring equals the price of two or three Rolls Royce. It was a trending topic on the internet as Nigerians were amazed by the price of the engagement ring.

The “Chivido” wedding was a celebration of luxury and love, attended by celebrities, politicians, and fans alike.

P-Square

The second separation of the legendary music duo P-Square ended fans’ hopes of seeing their favourite artists sing together.

2024 was a rollercoaster for the twin brothers, who began hurling insults and accusations at one another. Paul, while confirming the split, accused Peter of using the EFCC to arrest him.

He also accused Peter of stealing a song that he wrote. The music duo’s separation rocked the entertainment industry, and fans still wish they had reconciled.

Junior Pope

In April, the industry was plunged into mourning as beloved actor Junior Pope died in a boat accident while working on Adanma Luke’s film set.

His sudden death on April 10 remains a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of life. The tragedy generated discussions regarding the safety of the actors on location.

Chidimma Adetshina

Chidimma Adetshina made history as the first Nigerian to finish as the first runner-up at Miss Universe 2024. This happened after she won Miss Nigeria 2024, sparking much suspicion about her identity.

Eventually, her composure and brilliance dazzled the globe, making her a national hero.

 

Mr. Ibu
Nigerian comic actor John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, died of a heart attack on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62.

The movie actor has been fighting a long-term illness, prompting many Nigerians to donate to his hospital expenditures.

The movie star’s death sparked several disputes, with allegations and counter-claims flying between his wife, Stellamaris, and his adoptive daughter, Jasmine.

The comic veteran brought joy to millions through his unforgettable roles in Nollywood.
