The petrol tanker in flames

24 hours after a tanker laden with petrol went up in flames at Ajia junction along Ibadan-Ife Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, another petrol tanker has exploded after colliding with a trailer truck carrying travellers and cattle from Wudil, Kano State en route to Lagos.
Over 30 people were killed after the petrol tanker exploded along Lapai-Agaie Road in the Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State.
Gathered that more than 50 cows were also burnt alive during the incident that occurred around 12:30 am on Sunday.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Abdullahi Baba-Arab, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to him, the petrol tanker collided head-on with a trailer truck carrying travellers and cattle from Wudil, Kano State en route to Lagos.
He added that two other vehicles, a crane truck and a pickup van, were also involved in the incident.
The statement partly reads: “NSEMA has received a report of a deadly tanker explosion that occurred on Sunday, 8th September 2024, at about 12:30 am along Lapai-Agaie road, 2km from Dendo Community in Agaie LGA.
“The incident happened when a petrol tanker loaded with PMS collided with a trailer truck carrying travellers and cattle from Wudil, Kano State, heading to Lagos. Two other vehicles, a crane truck and a pickup van, were also involved in the incident.
“Over 30 people have already been confirmed dead, with more than 50 cattle burnt alive.”
