The much awaited maiden edition of Abeokuta marathon race tagged INTERNATIONAL ABEOKUTA 1O-KILOMETER MARATHON RACE has received a giant boost with a royal blessing from the Alake and paramount ruler of Egba land, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo when the progenitor of the Epoch making sports fiesta Hon.Bukola Olopade led a powerful team of the brains behind the race to Akake”s palace.
Oba Gbadebo while receiving the team expressed his joy on the fact that both was chosen for the historic sports initiated by an illustrious son of Egba land Hon Bukola Olopade who he described as MR.SPORTS.
The elated Oba Gbadebo while giving his royal blessing to the marathon race said that both the participants and the organisers of the race would enjoy the ancient town of Abeokuta where they would be avail the with tourist historic centres like Olumo and Adire market.
. Commending the organisers and sponsors of the event, Oba Gbadebo reassured that the fiesta would have both long and short term benefits.
Earlier in his address, the progenitor of the epoch making race Hon Bukola Olopade described the International marathon race as first of its kind adding where runners from different parts of the would converged on Ogun state for a marathon race.
Hon Olopade who who was a commissioner for youths and sports during the former Governor Gbenga Daniels administration in Ogun state during which the most successful sports fiesta Gateway Games was held noted that the marathon race would add value to the socio-economic development of both the people and state..
While expressing the appreciation of his team to the Alake for accepting to flag off the race come 2nd of November 2019, Olopade promised to make the marathon race an annual event adding that the similar race tagged ABUJA INTERNATIONAL MARATHON RACE and ASABA HALF MARATHON RACE holds in year 2020.
Hon.Olopade who is also at the apex of the the sports management Organisation Nilayo Sports Management Linited commended the sponsors of the event that includes Jac Motors, Access Bank, Rifts Foods, Bet Naija and IBD Hotels for their support.
