Adeleke Reigns Supreme in Osun West… beats Hussain to win by-election

The chief returning officer for the Osun West senatorial district by-election, Professor Laide Lawal, from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti had declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winners in 9 out of the 10 Local Governments that constitute the senatorial district.

The candidate of the PDP in the contest, Otunba Ademola Adeleke was said to have polled a total votes of 97,480 against his opponent, Mr Mudashir Husein of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who got 66,116 votes.

Adeleke, in the early hours of Sunday was declared winner of the contest by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), having got the highest votes.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of PDP in the state, Mr Soji Adagunodo has described the victory of his party as an outstanding triumph for the people of the state.

Adagunodo, in a press release made available to journalists on Sunday commended the courage and commitment of the electorate, saying the level of maturity displayed by the electorate made the exercise largely peaceful in all the 911 polling units in the senatorial district.
“Our party recognises the fact that you electorate had several options but rather decided to freely give us their mandate to represent them in the upper chambers of the legislative assembly.

” We thank them for honouring the memories of the first Executive Governor of Osun state , the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke by voting in his equally competent younger brother, Otunba Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke who is determined to serve them even better.

“We appreciate the confidence they reposed in the PDP as a party committed to good governance and development, true service and respect for human dignity in our dear state.

“Our appreciation also goes to Security Agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the Media for discharging their duties professionally in this election.

“We salute the courage and commitment of our party leaders and members in the 10 Local Governments of Osun West in particular and the state in general.

” We dedicate the victory of the PDP to every citizen and resident of Osun state who looks forward to the return of a compassionate, people-centred and development-oriented government in the state.

“We regard our victory in the by-election as a further call to service and promise not to fail in any way,” Adagunodo said.
