A human right activist and investigative journalist that had been keenly following the developments regarding defilement allegation against one Dr Femi Olaleye preferred by his estranged wife, Aderemi Olaleye, pleaded anonymous while sharing his intervention on the issue with our medium.

The activist called the attention of human rights groups who want speedy prosecution of the accused to study the protest letter written to Lagos state attorney general and commissioner for justice by the accused counsel.

Recall that CAIDOV called the attention of Lagos State Police Commissioner to arrest Dr Femi and prosecute him going by the second advice offered by DPP on the 17th of October 2022.

The activist opined that in a protest letter written by Olusegun Fabunmi (SAN) the counsel to the accused Dr Femi Olaleye on the second of November 2022 to Lagos State Attorney General regarding the attempt of Director of Public Prosecution to prosecute his client without conclusion of investigation and due process.

According to the lawyer in the protest letter, the activist quoted him saying;

“That to the utter shock of my client, the DPP issued another advice dated 17th October 2022, wherein he concluded that my client should be prosecuted for the offence of defilement of a child and sexual assault by penetration”.

The activist said,

“The Executive Director of CAIDOV Gbenga Soloki and other human rights activists leveraged on the second advice of DPP without asking for the outcome of the investigation of the first advice DPP offered.

“Dr Femi Olaleye has presented the requested evidence requested by DPP to the police command in his first advice. It is morally right for the OC legal department of DPP to request for the outcome of the investigation by the police before offering another advice.

“This is my concern as an activist and journalist that had been following the sequence of event within my space. I feel he that calls for equity, must come with clean hands.

“Having called the attention of to whom it may concern to this information, i urge all human rights activists who want justice to be served in this case to study the protest letter written to the Commissioner of Justice in Lagos State so as to have a better grasp of the issue.

I also appeal to them to exercise patience, so that the stakeholders handling the case can do their job without fear or favour”. He concluded.

Meanwhile, the Police in Lagos have said it is awaiting an updated advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP,  before prosecuting the suspect, Dr. Femi Olaleye over the allegation of defilement.

The Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP. Benjamin Hundeyin said this on Monday while speaking with Newsmen.

He confirmed that the DPP issued an advice but that it was inconclusive.

According to him, “The advice was that go and do this and this. We have done that and we have submitted it to them and awaiting the response of that.”

“It was an advice to update our investigation, which we have done, so we are awaiting there own updated advice too.”
