The federal government has frozen the bank accounts of Simon Ekpa and 16 others after designating them as terrorism financiers, following a decision by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee on Thursday.

The committee, which met in Abuja, recommended the individuals and entities for inclusion on the Nigeria Sanctions List in line with Section 54 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

According to government documents, the Attorney-General of the Federation, with the approval of the President, authorised their designation, mandating financial institutions to immediately identify and freeze all associated funds, assets, and economic resources without prior notice.

The directive extends to all bank accounts linked to the designated individuals, including signatories and directors of entities under the sanctions.

“For designated entities, this should include accounts linked to their signatories and directors to ensure comprehensive enforcement of the sanctions regime,” the government stated.

Among those listed is Simon Ekpa Njoku, whose accounts with Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) – 0118835791, 0115442299, and 0115442275 – have been flagged for immediate restriction.
