A Dangote truck has reportedly hit a bus belonging to the Borno State University (BOSU) killing two students and leaving many others injured.
The accident occured along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.
Gathered that the Dangote truck lost control and crashed into a bus carrying BOSU students.
Abba A. Massa, the university’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating that it happened on Wednesday as students were heading home after their examinations.
Among the victims were a final-year male student and a second-year female student, while several others were injured and rushed to two hospitals in Maiduguri—Umaru Shehu Hospital and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital—for immediate medical care.
Following the tragedy, BOSU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babagana Gutti, alongside Borno State’s Head of Service, Barrister Malam Fannami, and other university officials, visited the injured students in the hospitals.
Demonstrating solidarity, a group of BOSU students visited the hospitals to comfort their injured peers and donate blood.
In a related development, the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Borno State University (BOSU) community as well as to the parents and guardians of students affected by the tragic vehicle accident on Maiduguri-Damaturu road.
He however promised to ban trailers within the city.
