Three years after the tragic death of Sylvester Oromoni Jr., a pupil of Dowen College who died in November 2021 after allegedly being bullied in school by his seniors, his mother, Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni has reportedly died.
She passed away on November 25, 2024.
The sad news was confirmed by a series of posts and condolences shared by the family and their close associates.
The Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Jaro Egbo, visited Mr. Oromoni Snr., who is also a chairman of the Warri South West Local Government Council, on November 28 to offer condolences to the family.
In pictures from the condolence visit shared on Facebook by the Ughelli North Local Government Council, Egbo was said to have described Mrs. Oromoni’s sudden death as shocking and painful, stating that she passed away at the time when her presence will be needed most by the husband.
The demise of Mrs. Oromoni comes exactly seven months after a special court in Lagos ruled against the family over the demise of their sin. Mrs. Oromoni reportedly died from complications arising from high blood pressure and heart attack.
It would be recalled that last April, a Lagos State Coroner Inquest court sitting in Ogba Magistrate Court ruled that the death of a 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Lekki, Sylvester Junior was caused by the negligence of his parent and doctor.
The Coroner Magistrate, Mikhail Kadiri, determined that Oromoni died as a result of failing treatment for his enlarged liver.
Oromoni’s death was linked to a bully and an alleged deadly chemical he was forced to consume at school.
He was alleged to have stated that he was beaten up by five Dowen College senior students: Favour Benjamin, 16, Edward Begue, 16, Ansel Temile, 14, Kenneth Inyang, and Micheal Kashamu, 16, son of late Senator Buruji Kashamu, before his death.
However, on January 5, 2022, the Lagos State Government exonerated five pupils and five employees of Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos, who had been accused of Sylvester Oromoni’s death.
“Based on the foregoing it is clear that the deceased health deteriorated in (parents) PW 3’s care,” Kadiri was quoted.
He continued: “PW 3, did not take proper care of the deceased, PW 3, completely abandoned the deceased for a period of more than 32 hours.
“The deceased’s death was an avoidable one but for the negligence of the parents and PW 3, they didn’t take him to the hospital until the day he died on November 30, 2021.
“The deceased went through an avoidable and excruciating pain and made to suffer needlessly,” Kadiri said.
