Editorial: Curtailing accidents on the highways during Yuletide

The month of December every year is usually associated with crimes and criminality, given that some individuals who have no respect for law and order and who are in search of easy money always intensify their criminal activities often in search of money to meet up with December expenses and responsibilities being the month of Christmas and the New Year celebrations.

In this period, many Nigerians often unnecessarily lose their lives to road rage caused mainly by human error and design.

In order to stem an expected rise in crimes , the police and other armed services must intensify efforts to ensure that lives and property are secured.
In order to do this successfully, there’s a need for increased intelligence. The police in particular must increase patrol of major highways across the country to ensure that Nigerians going home for Xmas are safe.

On the part of the road safety corps, there’s a greater urgency and imperative to bolster oversight and patrol of major highways, increased check of the vehicular papers and rigorous enforcement of the speed limits.

It’s the considered view of NATIONAL WAVES Newspaper that once these measures are in place it will greatly have positive ramifications on crime curtailment and reduction of accidents on the highways.

Nigerians are also enjoined to show greater caution, tact and obedience of traffic rules during this yuletide period, this is of utmost importance to save travelers from unnecessary loss of lives.
