The family court division of Delta State High Court, Ughelli Division, has begun hearing in a suit seeking justice and protection of a 15-year-old school girl (name and identity withheld), allegedly trafficked by her mother for child sex exploitation.
The case which was instituted by a Delta State-based child rights activist, Ighorhiohwunu Aghogho, came up at the court on Friday.
Justice Mary Gesikeme-Akebotah of the court gave an order appointing the proprietress of Triumphal Model School, Effurun, Mrs. Magareth Oghuvwu, as “a guardian to the child, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”
The judge also ordered the court bailiff to serve the originating process and every other process and notice required in the suit “by substituted service through a registered courier” on the Delta State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission at No. 19, Maryam Babangida Way, opposite SUBEB, Asaba, before the next adjourned date.
She also ordered that “the originating process and every other process and notices required in the suit should be similarly served on the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police.”
The judge further granted an “interim order restraining all parties in the suit from taking further steps in the matter, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.”
She thereafter adjourned the case till Friday, December 13, 2024.
