The police in Bayelsa State have arrested the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr. Amadein Tibiebi over alleged illegal possession of a firearm.
Tibiebi, a former militant and self-proclaimed general, is currently being held and interrogated at a police station under state command.
The current arrest is connected to an earlier incident in November 2021, in which Richard Okon was taken into custody for reportedly possessing firearms illegally at a wake-keeping event.
In a confessional video, Okon said he was working with Tibiebi Woinemi Amadein, and the gun belonged to him.
He is the nephew and Chief Security Officer to Senator Cleopas Moses who represented Bayelsa Central in the 9th Senate.
Tibiebi was previously invited by the police, but he allegedly presented fake licences and forged documents, and was released due to his connections with some chieftains of the state PDP and government.
However, a fresh petition to the police led to his current arrest and he is being interrogated for illegal possession of firearm and forgery of firearm licence.
It was learnt that Tibiebi had been boastful about being untouchable by law enforcement officials due to his connections with the state PDP executive members and the state government.
