Abdulmalik Salawa is one of the Big Boys making waves in Abuja, the federal capital territory. He has his hands in different sectors of the economy. Years back, he delved into the hospitality business and is doing well in that sector. He recently spoke with National WAVES Assistant Editor, Emmanuel Fateman on why he added hospitality to his chain of business.
Lets meet you formally?
I am Abdul Malik Salao Adeshetima of Egbira Land. I am a businessman of different divergence, I am a builder, a publisher and I am into money market and consultancy.
How did you get into hospitality business?
I got into the hospitality business on account of the passion I have for it. My passion for humanity dragged me into it. I love decent accommodation. I love travelling and I love to stay in decent and cozy hotels. I have seen so many hotels and I made up my mind to contribute my quota to this sector, hence, I conceptualize this idea. I decided to bring my idea of making a unique place where you have all the facilities, the hall for conferences, a bar and restaurant, live DJ’S for parties and enough parking pace, I had to put a good percentage of my savings to ensure I put up a befitting hotel in Mpape. You and I know that Mpape is strategically located, It is just a ten minute drive to town.
I felt that, those coming to do business in Abuja, should be able to stay in hotels in Mpape. So I came up with De-Royal Cave Hotel Ltd, affordable three star hotel. It is for the middle class. It is a home away from home. It is place where you can -put off stress. Even in Europe there are places like Mpape, where people live. Mpape hills are good and the environment is okay for business.
The challenges we are having here in Mpape which I believe is our biggest problem is the issue of electricity., you can not run a hotel without adequate power supply.
How safe is De-Royal Cave Hotel?
Here we do have a very formidable security in place. Our security personnel are trained by a retired military officer they know the integrity of security. Also, I relate with the DPO in charge of Mpape.
The new police post given to Mpape police, we the hoteliers are equally working toward giving the best we can in enhancing the fight against crime. Those who have not been to Mpape think the area is notorious but I can tell you that Mpape is safe. Some people get scared of Mpape but Mpape is the must peaceful place to live with the co-operation of the Nigerian police, there is no way a situation will come up and you put up a call that you will never get response, they work 24hrs.
