MC Oluomo
By Adebayo Obajemu
Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly called MC Oluomo, the chairman of the Lagos state Motor Parks Management Committee, is an unusual man favoured by fate to dominate his environment.
This is a fact many hate to believe given his background as a man of fame and gravitas without sound education. We have forgotten that it’s God and God alone that dispenses favour according to His wishes.
We are wired as human beings with certain preconceptions, received ‘truth’ that without formal education a man’s way is half doomed. This is a preconception that has no basis in facts, which is why it’s very difficult for MC Oluomo’s detractors- and they are legion- to accommodate his good fortune.
In their minds, they wonder how can the leader of Agberos- a tribe widely regarded in our social parlance as miscreants and underworld dwellers become so socially acceptable in hallowed circle and in high society .
The truth is that our reading of sociology of life is most times warped and often fail to capture the connectivity of life in its different dimensions.
Imagine a world without commercial drivers, or roadside food vendors! How will that kind of life looks like?
The truth is that everyone is important for we are a network of important influence wielders if I may put it that way.
Why the fascination with Oluomo? And what exactly is his crime?
If you ask 30 people the constant refrain is that he is a thug and very rich, politicians use him to terrorise their opponents.
And you ask for analysis of their claims!
Who among us is a total saint? A PhD holder that loses his patience and beats his wife up is a thug by default, in a way a journalist who exaggerates the achievement of a public officer can be said to be a useful tool in the hand of politicians.
The latest attack on MC Oluomo is about his alleged threat against the Igbos in Lagos.
Was he the only one that issued threat if at all he did.
The powerful Obidients Movement faithful mainly some Igbos in Lagos threatened and insulted Yorubas in their platforms, yet nobody saw that. Threats and counter threats characterized the last election, why was it MC Oluomo that was singled out for attack? Why are we like this? Why do we love hypocrisy?
The anger against Oluomo is envy. A lot of people find it difficult to reconcile themselves to the idea of his wealth. They have forgotten that he has been the leader of Road Transport Workers in Lagos for several years. The umbrella body of road transport workers is a very rich organization.
Has MC Oluomo stolen anybody’s money? Why the fixation on him? Envy!
Afterall, he is not the first person to head NURTW in Lagos and he will not be the last.
The man has become the victim of a vicious campaign of calumny in spite of his philanthropy that has benefitted thousands of people in Lagos. Yet, he is never loud about it, but his detractors will not leave him alone.
Many are even calling for his arrest, including Atiku Campaign Council for what they called his incendiary threats against the Igbos, but they never mentioned the hate speech of many Igbos against the Yoruba, including the now trending remark attributed to Emmanuel Iwuanyawu where he called the Yorubas” rascals we shall deal with them.”
Enough of Oluomo’s bashing. He is not your president or governor and so we can not hold him accountable for our current circumstances in the country.
He is just a young man favoured by fate and destiny. He can not do anything about it, neither are you and me.
Let us face the common challenge facing all of us which is the ineptitude of our leaders. MC is not our problem.
If MC Oluomo has committed any crime he should be made to face the music but as it is ,his only crime is that he is popular and has a first name recognition even more than most public officers. We are simply envious of him.
If a man loses his wife to another man , it is MC that’s responsible, if Sanwoolu loses election it’s because MC did not support. If he wins , it’s because MC was with him.
His ubiquity is a sure sign of greatness.
