Adam Namadi, son of former Vice-president Namadi Sambo, has opened up on why he requested for refund of N2m each given to delegates for the PDP House of Representatives primary. He added that there was nothing strange about asking PDP delegates in Kaduna State to refund the N2 million each given to them after he failed to secure the party’s House of Representatives ticket to represent Kaduna North Federal Constituency at the lower chamber.
Namadi said the delegates were aware of the directive by the PDP stakeholders in Kaduna North Constituency that “any sums given to delegates by various aspirants for their support should be returned to those unsuccessful in their primary elections”.
The ex-Vice President’s son added that some delegates in the Kaduna North constituency had started to refund unsuccessful State House of Assembly aspirants whose elections were held before theirs, stressing that he was not “acting in isolation or making any ludicrous demands”.
He made this known via a statement on Wednesday.
Sunday media reports had on Tuesday quoted Namadi to have asked PDP delegates in Kaduna State to refund the N2 million each given to them after he failed to secure the party’s House of Reps ticket.
He polled 02 votes at the PDP House of Reps primaries held on Monday.
Namadi, who had promised to add N1.5 million to the N2 million given to each of the delegates, secured the least votes among the three contenders.
He was defeated by the incumbent representative of the Kaduna North Federal Constituency, Samaila Suleiman, who garnered 22 votes.
The third aspirant, Shehu Usman ABG, came second with 14 votes.
Speaking on the development, Namadi said: “I would like to state that as a matter of fact, there was nothing ‘dramatic’ about the request, and it is unfortunate the media has been purporting it as such.
“Delegates themselves are aware of the directives given by the major stakeholders of the PDP in the Kaduna North Constituency, that any sums given to delegates by various aspirants for their support should be returned to those unsuccessful in their primary elections.
“This was done to encourage delegates to vote for the aspirants based on their qualities and not just their perceived spending power, and to hold them accountable for the candidates they put forth,” he stated.
Namadi, however, said he had taken the decision in good faith and would continue to support the PDP.
