At least three people have been confirmed dead, including a child, and seven others injured in a shooting at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, United States, on Monday, according to the police chief.

Madison Police Chief, Shon Barnes, confirmed that the suspected shooter is among the deceased, AP reports.

Local sources reportedly said that the gunman who burst into the school and opened fire also killed himself.

The incident took place at Abundant Life Christian School in the state capital. The police have stated that the investigation is still ongoing.

“This remains an active investigation,” the Madison Police Department said in a statement.

The Police statement added, “More information will be released as it becomes available. We ask people to avoid the area at this time.”

Authorities had cordoned off roads around the school by Monday afternoon.

Federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have been deployed to support local law enforcement.

Wisconsin Governor, Tony Evers, reportedly expressed his concern, saying, “We are praying for the kids, educators, and the entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information.

“We are also grateful for the first responders working swiftly to address the situation.”

According to information on its website, Abundant Life Christian School, which serves approximately 390 students from kindergarten through high school, is a non-denominational institution.
