CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele
By Our Reporter
These are indeed interesting moments for the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. This is because he has rejected the presidential nomination form allegedly bought for him by a group of farmers to contest for Nigeria’s presidency in 2023.
Sources informed NATIONAL WAVES that Emefiele could not stand the heat and criticism that trailed the purchase of the form by the groups.
He took to his verified Twitter handle to turn down the offer, saying he had yet to reach the decision to run.
He thanked the farmers for considering him worthy, stressing that when it was time for him to declare he would do so in compliance with extant laws and with his personal money.
It would be recalled that since the purchase of the form was made public, it had sparked reactions with many calling for his immediate sack by President Muhammadu Buhari, arguing that his action was in gross violation of CBN Act, the Public Service Act and indeed the constitution all of which require the CBN Governor not to be politically exposed.
The backlash might have prompted the CBN boss and his promoters to hurriedly beat a retreat with Emefiele tweeting that he awaited God’s divine direction in the next few days.
“I will continue to serve and sacrifice for the good people of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“This is a serious decision that requires God’s Divine intervention: in the next few days The Almighty will so direct.”
