The moves by 19 out of the shortlisted 38 directors to get promoted to the position of permanent secretaries in the Federal Civil Service have failed as they failed their qualifying examination.

Recall that the Federal Government, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, commenced the process of appointing new permanent secretaries to fill vacancies in eight states.

A memo from the OHCSF, signed by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, on October 7, 2024, indicated that officials currently undergoing disciplinary procedures were barred from applying for the positions.

The memo stated that the appointment process had been approved by President Bola Tinubu.

Giving a brief on the status of the process so far, the Director of Press at the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Eno Olotu, said, “19 of the 38 eligible directors who sat for the examinations failed while 19 others scaled through this first stage and would be participating in the second stage, which will test their competence in the use of Information Communication and Technology in conducting government business, on Wednesday, 13th November 2024.

“This three-stage exercise follows the established tradition of a transparent and rigorous process, deliberately made so to ensure the very best among the candidates are appointed.

“Successful candidates would then proceed to the final stage to appear before a carefully constituted panel of top bureaucrats and representatives of the organised private sector on Friday, 15th November 2024.”
